Local Energy Companies need administration and billing, just like any other energy company. But because energy is also produced on-site, the bill gets a bit more complicated. Our system is designed specifically for this purpose.

Traditional energy billing systems are aimed to administer and bill the flow of energy in one direction: towards the customer. Energy is sold to large numbers of customers with sometimes varying rates. The focus in those billing systems is on efficiently handling millions of customers and on easy mutation of customer info.

More complexity
The Qurrent billing system has another focus. Our challenge lies in the great diversity of types of energy, flow directions, timing and varying rates. It is for instance very conceivable that different sources of energy (local/grid, solar/wind etc.) will have different rates. Also, the same type of energy can have different rates at different times of the day, just like most people experience with a traditional utility through 'day' and 'night' rates.

Handling this much more complicated energy mini-market requires a system that is specifically designed for that purpose. This is not an altered billing system, it is newly built from the ground up with one single purpose in mind: serving Local Energy Companies.

Serving is indeed the right word to describe our role. We offer you a platform on which you can run your Local Energy Company. You can set the rates, parameters, dependencies etc. straight into our system. If you for instance decide that local energy is free, than that's fine with us (legal boundries may exist however). All we do is make sure that whatever you and all your members agree upon, get administered and billed fairly and transparently.
